What Vital Role Does the NCCCO Certification Play in Crane Safety?

What Vital Role Does the NCCCO Certification Play in Crane Safety?

The Crane Operator plays a critical role in the operation of the crane and is responsible for crane safety at the site. He must be aware of the site conditions that could adversely affect the operation of the crane. He must be able to understand the load chart and determine net capacity. He must be cognizant of all factors that might impact crane capacity. A single miscalculation or incorrect evaluation from his side can result in expensive losses and severe accidents which is why very stringent evaluations are necessary before certification.

Why NCCCO certification?

The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators’ (NCCCO) certification is mandatory for operating specific types of crane machinery weighing 2,000 lbs. or more. NCCCO Certifications are recommended for operators of all crane types because they are aimed at reducing workplace risk, enhancing lifting equipment safety, fewer accidents, and reducing the risk of loss. CCO certification card is issued only to those who meet eligibility requirements and pass written and practical exams, demonstrating fundamental knowledge of, and skill in, safe operations.

Reliable and Quality Evaluation

CCO evaluations and certifications are designed in a manner to ensure that employees working with cranes are skilled, knowledgeable, and fully aware of their job. To ensure CCO program examinations are psychometrically sound, fair, and effective measurements of knowledge and skill, NCCCO has combined the expertise of its subject matter experts with the International Assessment Institute (IAI). All items that appear on the examinations are reviewed at least four times, by subject matter experts, IAI, editors, and additional panels of experts.

The NCCCO crane operator certification exam includes written and practical examinations. Each type of crane has a specifically designed set of evaluations. It is mandatory to pass the written exam before you can take the practical exam. The practical exam must be completed within a year of clearing the written exams to receive the certification.

 Wholesome Testing

NCCCO coordinates its testing services through all major industry groups. They not only evaluate your technical ability to operate the machinery but also evaluate you on multiple factors including your ability to calculate load weights, read load charts, knowledge of safety precautions, standard signals, and also basic load rigging. This ensures that crane operators are not only well equipped to do their job but are also aware of how to handle any possible mishaps.

High Credibility

NCCCO certification programs have been accredited to the international standard ISO 17074 by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) since 2007. It is to be noted that The NCCCO crane operator programs are the only programs to have earned accreditations from both NCCA and ANSI as well as recognition by federal OSHA as meeting OSHA and ASME (ANSI) requirements for crane operator competency. NCCCO programs meet federal OSHA regulations and the American National Standard ASME B30. The NCCCO national crane operator certification program is recognized by the federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration as meeting OSHA’s requirements for crane operator competency. The standards are set at a benchmark that ensures their certification is provided only to eligible, skilled, and well-trained operators who are fully aware of all safety compliance standards. NCCCO does not offer its own training centers to preserve its status as an independent, impartial testing authority.

CCO Certification Programs

NCCCO offers the most established and comprehensive range of crane operator and related certification programs that are nationally and internationally accredited by NCCA and ANSI and are endorsed by numerous other industry and regulatory groups. NCCCO certification programs address all crane-related functions at a job site and provide a common knowledge base to ensure safe, smooth crane operations. NCCCO certifications also provide expanded job opportunities for those who work with and around cranes.

Summary

Evidence has proven that certification can decrease the number of accidents, reduce the risk of damage to property and lives and increase safety during crane operations. There is also a lot of cost and time savings since operators have adequate knowledge and skills to handle their work with speed and efficiency. NCCCO certifications also provide expanded job opportunities for those who work with and around cranes.
